How to Forward Calls to Your Tinylawn Number

Forward your existing business calls to your Tinylawn AI receptionist. Step-by-step instructions for AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, and more.

If you already have a business phone number that customers know, you don't have to change it. Just set up call forwarding so that calls to your existing number are automatically routed to your Tinylawn AI receptionist. Callers dial the number they already have, and your AI picks up.

What is call forwarding?

Call forwarding is a phone feature that redirects incoming calls from one number to another. Instead of your phone ringing, the call is sent to a different number — in this case, your Tinylawn AI receptionist number.

It works at the carrier level, so there's nothing to install. Once enabled, calls are redirected before they ever reach your handset.

Types of call forwarding

Most carriers support several forwarding modes. Choose the one that fits how you want to use Tinylawn:

Type

What it does

Best for

Unconditional (all calls)

Forwards every incoming call immediately

Sending all calls to your AI receptionist full-time

When busy

Forwards only when your line is already on a call

Catching overflow calls you can't answer

When unanswered

Forwards after a set number of rings with no answer

Letting the AI pick up calls you miss

When unreachable

Forwards when your phone is off, in airplane mode, or out of service

Ensuring coverage when you're off the grid

Our recommendation: If you want the AI receptionist to handle all calls, use unconditional forwarding. If you prefer to answer calls yourself and only use the AI as a backup, use when unanswered — this way the AI picks up only when you don't.

Before you start

You'll need your Tinylawn phone number. Find it on your Getting Started page or under Settings > General (Receptionist). Have it ready — you'll enter it during setup.

In the instructions below, replace [Tinylawn number] with your full 10-digit Tinylawn phone number (e.g., 3125551234).

Google Voice

Google Voice uses a web-based setup instead of star codes:

1. Go to voice.google.com and sign in.

2. Click the gear icon (⚙️) in the top right to open Settings.

3. Click Calls in the left sidebar.

4. Under Call forwarding, click the linked numbers section.

5. Click + New linked number.

6. Enter your Tinylawn phone number.

7. Google will send a verification code to that number — enter the code to confirm.

Once linked, all calls to your Google Voice number will ring your Tinylawn AI receptionist.

Custom forwarding rules: Under Calls > Custom call forwarding, you can create rules to forward only certain contacts or contact groups to your Tinylawn number while keeping other calls ringing your phone.

To turn off forwarding, go back to Settings > Calls and remove your Tinylawn number from the linked numbers list, or toggle it off.

Good to know:

- Google Voice can forward to up to 6 linked numbers.

- Forwarding only works to US and Canadian numbers.

- There's no extra charge from Google for forwarding — but your mobile carrier's incoming call charges may still apply.

Using your phone's built-in settings

If you prefer not to use dial codes, most phones have call forwarding built into their settings.

iPhone

1. Open Settings > Phone > Call Forwarding.

2. Toggle Call Forwarding on.

3. Enter your Tinylawn phone number.

4. Tap back to save.

To turn off, return to the same screen and toggle it off.

Note: This option may not appear on all carriers (notably Verizon and US Cellular use star codes instead).

Android

1. Open the Phone app.

2. Tap the three-dot menu (⋮) > Settings.

3. Tap Calling accounts and select your SIM.

4. Tap Call forwarding.

5. Choose a forwarding type (Always forward, When busy, When unanswered, When unreachable).

6. Enter your Tinylawn phone number and tap Turn on or Update.

The exact menu path varies by manufacturer (Samsung, Google Pixel, etc.), but the option is usually under Phone > Settings > Call forwarding or Supplementary services.

How to verify forwarding is active

After setting up, test it:

1. Call your existing business number from a different phone.

2. Your Tinylawn AI receptionist should answer.

3. If your own phone rings instead, the forwarding didn't take. Try the steps again or contact your carrier.

You can also check forwarding status with these codes on most carriers:

Check

What to dial

All call forwarding

*#21#

Busy forwarding

*#67#

Unanswered forwarding

*#61#

Unreachable forwarding

*#62#

How to disable call forwarding

To stop forwarding and have calls ring your phone again, use the "Turn off" codes listed under your carrier above, or:

- Most carriers: Dial *73 and tap Call.

- AT&T / T-Mobile / Mint: Dial #21# and tap Call.

- iPhone: Settings > Phone > Call Forwarding > toggle off.

- Android: Phone app > Settings > Call forwarding > select type > Turn off.

Things to know

- Forwarded calls still use your minutes. If you don't have an unlimited plan, forwarded calls are billed the same as if you answered them yourself. There's typically no extra monthly fee for the forwarding feature.

- You can't forward to international numbers. Call forwarding only works with US phone numbers.

- It works with any phone type. You can forward from a cell phone, landline, or VoIP number to your Tinylawn number.

- Your callers won't notice. From the customer's perspective, they dialed your number and someone answered. They won't know the call was forwarded.

- You can change it anytime. Turn forwarding on before heading into the field and off when you're back at the office. Or leave it on permanently and let the AI handle everything.

- Test after setup. Always make a test call from a different phone to confirm forwarding is working before relying on it.

- Carrier-specific quirks. Some carriers require you to be on their network (not Wi-Fi calling) to activate forwarding. If the codes don't work, try turning off Wi-Fi and using cellular, or contact your carrier's support.
